Gini Welcome to Word: Automating Your Work with Macros. A Word macro is programming code that directs Microsoft Word to take specific actions. Macros can be used for repetitive procedures, complex tasks, or a series of steps taken each time an existing document is opened or a new document is created. Here's the great news. Create or run a macro. Word for Office 365, Word 2019, Word 2016, Word 2013, Word 2010. Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Word Options. Click Customize. To view a list of built-in macros, click Word Commands in the Macros in list. In the Macros in list, click the template or document in which you want to store the macro.

If you are authoring Macros for Office for Mac, you can use most of the same objects that are available in VBA for Office. For information about VBA for Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, see the following:

Outlook for Mac and OneNote for Mac do not support VBA.

Office 2016 for Mac is sandboxed

Unlike other versions of Office apps that support VBA, Office 2016 for Mac apps are sandboxed.

Sandboxing restricts the apps from accessing resources outside the app container. This affects any add-ins or macros that involve file access or communication across processes. You can minimize the effects of sandboxing by using the new commands described in the following section.
